Our Dorper sheep are crossed with Painted Deserts. Painted Deserts became a breed in 1997. You can find several different breeds in it's background such as Merino, Rambouillet, Navajo Churro, Mouflon, Corsican, Texas Dall, Barbados, Hawaiian Black and Jacob. They are also known for their ability to grow a trophy-class set of horns along with their wild and colorful markings. You also benefit from no shearing and tail docking!
Dorper crosses are highly adaptable and do well in harsh, extensive conditions as well as in and can easily be managed to produce three lamb crops in two years. They are very fertile and prolificmore intensive operations. The ewes are excellent mothers and heavy milkers. Their lambs are vigorous and have high survivability.
They are non-seasonal or have an extended breeding season . Lambing rates of 180% can be achieved per lambing. These sheep are early maturing and will produce a lamb crop at one year of age.
They are excellent converters of a wide range of forage types and they excel in grazing or weed control operations.
Because of the Dorper's Blackhead Persian origin, they have a natural tolerance to high temperatures and heavy insect populations. They are productive in areas where other breeds barely survive.
